Caswell 3-3                           


The end of the year is quickly approaching. Students have worked very diligently on their animal projects. They researched an animal, wrote a first draft, edited and wrote a final draft. Students are finishing up our units in math and reading.  In reading, we are working on academic vocabulary and comprehension. Math concepts are now review, such as perimeter, area, decomposing arrays and multi-digit addition/subtraction. We are looking forward to the next 4 weeks of June.

This month, the entire third grade is choosing one of their written pieces to edit. The editing process allows the students to look deeply at their written work to make it more descriptive and detailed. 

We have had a very busy October. The students in the entire third grade just finished writing a persuasive piece. The students had to pretend that they were a pumpkin and needed to use descriptive language to persuade someone to choose them from the "patch". The students worked on their first draft in class and then typed their final draft on their chrome books. In math, we have begun working with multiplication. We are dealing with arrays, grouping of numbers, commutative properties and fact fluency. Students will soon come home with a practice page to complete nightly so they can become more fluent with their multiplication. The students are very excited about working on multiplication. In reading, we are focusing on formatting a written response to texts that we are reading in class. Students need to provide evidence from the text to complete their written answer.
