United Nations Day

posted Oct 16, 2018, 6:55 AM by Amy Palermo

October 24th is United Nations Day across the world, primarily in UN member countries. It marks the anniversary of the enactment of the 1945 United Nations Charter, the treaty that founded the intergovernmental organization committed to upholding the rights and prosperity of all peoples.

Since its founding during the second world war, the UN has grown from 51 member countries to 193, and has fostered international collaboration to achieve common goals such as protecting the environment, saving world heritage sites, and eradicating smallpox across the globe.
