VPN

VPN stands for virtual private network.

VPN access is now required to access personal computers from outside ISU's firewall  (as of October 10, 2012)

In ISU's environment, you'll currently need VPN for the following tasks.
  • remote desktop or SSH to your workstation.
  • ARGOS
  • Internet Native Banner (Banner INB)
  • Travel & Expense and Workfow systems
  • print to on-campus printers from off campus

You'll need to request an account, and install VPN client software.  Installation instructions for Mac and Windows are attached at the bottom of this page. For Linux, please file a support request with CoSETech.

Faculty and staff can request access by emailing help@isu.edu
Requests must include person's name, user name, and what they need access to, such as specific server including IP address.  Help desk may also request the name of the  person's supervisor.

For example:
Joe User:  userjoe   Needs to access remote desktop on work computer at 134.50.xx.xx and the  glacier file share at 134.50.3.234, his is supervised by Roger User, chair of the math department.

Students will need to have a supervisor request access.

VPN Usage notes:

Please don't download large files through the VPN, and it is recommend to check your IP at whatsmyip.org to make sure you have an ISU address.  ISU addresses start with 134.50.
There is currently not a good VPN client solution for Windows 8  (as of 5/28/2013)
