Why CAS?

CAS is a core requirement of the IB Diploma Programme.

But why does the IB want you to do CAS? What's in it for you?

The world is changing rapidly and the old advice of working hard at school, going to a good college and getting a good degree will secure you a good job for life is no longer true. Academic results are important, but they are no longer the be all and end all.

Experiential Learning and CAS offers you the opportunity to develop skills of communication, collaboration, ethics, leadership, creativity, patience, determination and so much more. It is not impossible to learn these in a classroom but it is much easier and much more profound to learn them through active experimentation on real world problems in a real world setting.

This is an article from the New York Times (NY Times) which makes for interesting reading - how even Google doesn't rely on only exam results.

And a video (even though dated) shows how rapidly the world is changing. CAS will give you the tools to deal with an ever changing world.
