Connecting Kids is an organization funded by the Greater Mankato Area United Way and generous donations from other local organizations and foundations.  We hope to provide financial assistance for students in need within the GMAUW service area to participate in out-of-school activities.  The United Way makes the following statement to reflect the importance:
Our youth are our community’s treasure.  United Way believes that youth should have the opportunity to participate in out-of-school programs that provide a safe and enriching environment that builds youth assets.  Research shows that the more assets a youth has, the more likely he/she will be able to make wise decisions, choose positive paths, and grow up competent, caring and responsible.

It is our belief that all children deserve access to programs that help build important assets to contribute to future success.

Update Winter 2018

Congratulations to Al Roehm on his retirement from position as coordinator of the Connecting Kids Program! If you worked with Al, we are sure you share our gratitude for his dedication to the program.

Connecting Kids is an organization providing financial assistance for school age children (K-12) living at or below poverty level, to help with the costs of out of school time recreation and enrichment opportunities. For the purposes of our program, we identify that as children who qualify for free or reduced lunch. If your family does not meet that qualification but you are still in need, Connecting Kids may consider assistance on a case-by-case basis. You must reside in the service area of the Greater Mankato United Way (Blue Earth, Nicollet, Le Sueur, and Waseca counties).

At this time, assistance may be awarded for one session/season of an activity/sport per child per school year. Parents/Guardians are responsible for registering their children with organization/program providers, knowing and meeting all requirements of the organization/program provider. Requirements may include: attending parent meetings, signing release forms, providing equipment and appropriate clothing (uniform) and shoes. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transporting child to and from scheduled practices/rehearsals/events.

The Greater Mankato Area United Way remains committed to providing funding to help students engage in recreation and enrichment activities. Mankato Area Public Schools continues its role as financial host for Connecting Kids. A new program coordinator will be hired spring 2018. During the transition, requests for funding are being taken through the office of the Director of Community Education & Recreation, Mankato Area Public Schools.

Please fill out this Application Form for funding consideration.

Thank you for your patience while we review your application. You can expect a response within 2-3 weeks of receiving your application.
