ECFE and School Readiness are programs of Duluth Community Education, with a mission for lifelong learning.

Starting preschool is an exciting milestone for your young child's life, marked by their emerging sense of independence and expanding social, language and thinking skills.  Duluth Public Schools offers several great preschool options.

Our Curriculum:
The Duluth Preschool curriculum promotes each child's social-emotional, language, physical and intellectual development.  Licensed early childhood teachers provide instruction from the following resources:
  • OWL- Opening the World of Learning
  • Second Step: social and emotional learning
  • SEEDS of Early Learning: rhyming, alliteration, letter names and letter sounds recognition.
In addition to the structured activities, children have plenty of time for free play, too. Research shows that play is important to healthy brain development. Preschool classroom activities are aligned with Duluth Public Schools kindergarten to grade twelve goals.

  • High Quality Early Childhood Education- suporting all areas of development.
  • Research Based, Age Appropriate Curricula and Assessments
  • Ongoing Parent/Teacher Communication- Parents play a vital role in preparing their children for school.  Parent/Teacher conferences are offered twice a year as well as opportunities for parents to spend time with your child in the classroom and get information and resources on how to support your child's learning.
  • Staff with MN Licensure & Ongoing Professional Development in:
    • Early Childhood Education
    • Early Childhood Special Education
    • Parent Education
  • Quality Learning Environment
