Notes from the Nurse

Nurse’s News

First of all- Welcome Back to School- I am hoping that you all had a great summer. I would like to take the time to introduce myself to you. My name is Denise Staehnke. My husband and I have 6 boys and 3 grand-daughters. I have been in the Healthcare Field since 1989. I hold an RN degree as well as my Bachelor’s of Applied Health degree. I have held a variety of roles over the past years, such as hospital nursing, Homecare/Hospice, Chemical Dependency, Oncology as well as Risk Management. I am very excited about my role as the school nurse. Please know that I will do all I can to keep your children healthy, safe and ready for learning.

Minnesota Department of Health requires us to have a Physician’s order for any medications given at school. This includes prescription as well as non-prescription (Tylenol, Ibuprofen etc.) medications. All medications given need to be in the original container labeled by the pharmacy. Please contact me if your child needs to take medications and we will get your child set up.  A medication order from the Physician is effective for the school year.

I will be reviewing immunization records in the upcoming month. Minnesota law requires written proof of certain vaccinations for children in child care, early childhood programs, and school. However, if a child has a medical reason or if his/her parents are conscientiously opposed to any or all of the vaccinations, a legal exemption is available.

I will update this site frequently with information on flu/cold, head lice etc. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have.

Let’s make this a healthy, great year.

 Denise Staehnke RN, BAH
