We are beginning with Unit 1 for both grade levels.

Grade 5- Unit 1 focuses on geometry concepts like Perimeter, Area, Volume.  We are practicing using formulas to solve multi-step problems, while exploring operations with fractions.

Grade 6- Unit 1 focuses on persuasive graphing- How and why it is used. Currently we are reviewing MEAN,MEDIAN, MODE and other data landmarks.  We will also touch on FRACTIONS, INTEGERS and PLOTTING POINTS in the

Students should be studying at least 10 mins everyday to prepare for the test.  A great review for both grades would be looking back through their Everyday Math Journal and reviewing all lessons from Unit 1.

Unit 2  grades 5 and 6.  If your child did not master the objectives in Unit 1, they will continue to work 1:1 or in small groups, further exploring the topics from Unit 1.  We are continually working toward mastery of all objectives outlined by the State of Minnesota.  I will also be available to work with students after school until 4:00 Monday-Thursday, answering any questions students might have regarding their homework or students can get caught up on A-math if they are falling behind.  Students are welcome to stay after if they have a permission note from home. Please contact me if you would like to set up a tentative schedule.  Don't forget to check students grades online.  Parent-Teacher conferences are coming soon!  If you have any questions- send an email, call, or stop by the classroom.

We will be officially kicking off the start of Accelerated Math later in September.  Students will be required to complete at least 4-5 homework objectives in grade 5 and 5-6 homework objectives in grade 6 each week.  We are excited about all the changes to improve our math programs- please bear with us as we work out the kinks with each of our new online options!

Welcome Back to School 2018-19!

What a great start to the school year!  Each of the students in grades 5 and 6 is creating personal letter logos that will be placed above each of their lockers. This project is our first combined math and art project for the year.  All 5th and 6th grade students should also be practicing their basic multiplication facts 0-12.  Research has shown that automatic recall of basic math facts allows the brain to have more available brain power which can be directed toward learning new ideas.  We will be TESTING BASIC MULTIPLICATION FACT SKILLS later this week and the week of September 12th.  Students, who do not meet minimum recall requirements of approximately 30 facts/2 minutes, will be practicing 5-10 minutes each morning before school starts with Mrs.Gronbeck until mastery is demonstrated.  Please remind your child to study and/or ask them to play a game of "Multiplication Challenge"!
