About Mrs. Young

Hello Third Graders and families! My name is Lisa Young, and I am so excited to begin my third year of teaching Third Grade at the Battle Lake School.  I am blessed to finally be teaching in the town that my family and I live in and call home.  This is my 12th year of teaching overall, in addition to several years of substitute teaching and working as a paraprofessional in the Title 1 program for two years in Battle Lake as a Reading interventionist.  I grew up in Staples, Minnesota. I graduated from Moorhead State University (now MSUM) and have taught in Ray, North Dakota, Fergus Falls, MN, Verndale, MN, and now Battle Lake.   I have three children; Nathan, who is attending UND and is in his final year there completing a biology major; Andrew, who is attending MSUM for Law Enforcement, and Maia, who is a senior this year.  She has plans to attend a school which offeres a Dental Hygiene/Therapist Program eventually.  We live on Ottertail Lake and enjoy all the activities that living on a lake entails; boating, skiiing, wakeboarding, swimming, and just enjoying the beautiful sunsets.  In a few months, we will enjoy snowmobiling as well, but I am happy to wait for that!  I love teaching third graders and am looking forward to getting to know my students and helping them develop a love of learning.  I work hard to develop engaging lesson plans, but I have learned that it takes a joint effort from home and school to help students grow to be the most successful students they can be.  I will be in contact with you frequently to let you know how you can help me help your child succeed.  Please feel welcome to reach out to me anytime with questions or concerns.  The best method for private messages is email; I can be reached at lyoung@isd542.org.  You may also write a note in your child's planner; I will be checking them everyday. I am looking forward to working with you!
