All about Ms. Gilligan

Fairness is not giving everyone the same things;

 it is giving everyone what they NEED to Grow!

    I whole-heartedly believe the above quote and my teaching strategies reflect that conviction. I believe that teaching is important and that it is critical that I always do my best, so I strive to be a model of a responsible and respectful person and an enthusiastic learner because students who witness their teacher's joy in learning will become joyful learners too!  I want my students to be life-long learners.

     I am excited to be starting my 30th year as an educator at Heritage E-STEM Magnet School. I started my teaching career on the Border of Mexico in South Texas.  Since returning to Minnesota in 2005, I have earned my Master’s degree in Literacy Education and my Reading certification through Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. This past summer, I took five graduate classes that I believe will enhance my teaching practice and help more students feel success in reading and writing. The strategies I learned to help children with ADD be more successful in my class will help others as well.  Differentiation and the use of technology will also be emphasized in my classroom this year to demonstrate my commitment to the quote at the top of this page!

       I am committed to working with parents to ensure that every one of my students is happy and learning in my classroom. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I especially appreciate any insight that may help me connect with or understand your child better, so that I can meet his/her needs.
