WHAT IS P.S.E.O.?

(Post Secondary Enrollment Option)

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college-level, nonsectarian courses at eligible participating postsecondary institutions. Most PSEO courses are offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution; some courses are offered online. Each participating college or university sets its own requirements for enrollment into the PSEO courses. Eleventh and 12th-grade students may take PSEO courses on a full- or part-time basis; 10th graders may take one career/technical PSEO course. If they earn at least a grade C in that class, they may take additional PSEO courses.

There is no charge to PSEO students for tuition, books or fees for items that are required to participate in a course. Students must meet the PSEO residency and eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.09. If a school district determines a pupil is not on track to graduate, she/he may continue to participate in PSEO. Funds are available to help pay transportation expenses for qualifying students to participate in PSEO courses on college campuses. Schools must provide information to all students in grades 8-11 and their families by March 1, every year. Students must notify their school by May 30 if they want to participate in PSEO for the following school year. For current information about the PSEO program, and to see the most current list of PSEO participating colleges,  go to MDE PSEO Page

***At Burnsville High School, students are required to attend a

mandatory information meeting in order to participate in the

P.S.E.O. program. Parents are strongly encouraged to also

attend. This informational meeting is held in February and

covers what PSEO is, how it works with BHS graduation

requirements, issues of full or part time, and much, much more.

As well, representatives of the most attended colleges for

P.S.E.O. are there to give more specific information about the

P.S.E.O. program at their college, and to pick up the P.S.E.O.

application for that college.

After the mandatory meeting, students must meet with their

Counselor by May 30th of that year to state that they intend to

participate the following fall.

This year (2018/19_), the mandatory PSEO meeting will be held on

Monday February 25th at 7pm in the Mraz theater at BHS.

After this meeting, students who want to pursue their PSEO application will meet with their regular Counselor to get the supporting materials, as well as go through a credit evaluation. This can be scheduled through our Counseling secretary Deb Scherer at 952-707-2108 or at dscherer@isd191.org.

FYI - Potential Job Opportunity -

    Hello,

My name is Shar Lattery and I work for ISD 191, Community Education.  I am looking for students who would like to work in our Project KIDS before school programs which are located in all of our elementary schools. We have many shifts available Monday through Friday with the option to work before school or after school or a mix of both. We are very flexible with our scheduling of hours. Project KIDS is a great program where you can come to work and make a difference in the lives of our elementary aged students. A typical day would include playing board games, coloring, playing in the gym, arts and crafts, helping with homework and just spending time interacting with our kids.

If this sounds like a place that you would like the opportunity to be involved in, please call me and I would love to set up a time where we could meet and show you around.  We are looking to hire several high school students to work as part of our team.

    Hello All -

At this point - if you are planning on continuing PSEO for next fall - you need to get you info to your Counselor before June 8.   If you have that information - Course title & credit value for EACH course - please email your BHS Counselor  with this right away.  If you are going to be part time and need to adjust your BHS fall schedule to accommodate your PSEO classes ~ Counselors do not have access to the BHS scheduler yet.  We'll have to do that in August.  Please keep an eye on the PSEO web page this August for updates!!

Also - if you did not yet pick up your state form for next fall classes from your BHS Counselor - you also need to do that immediately!!

    Have a GREAT summer!!
