WHAT IS P.S.E.O.?

(Post Secondary Enrollment Option)

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college-level, nonsectarian courses at eligible participating postsecondary institutions. Most PSEO courses are offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution; some courses are offered online. Each participating college or university sets its own requirements for enrollment into the PSEO courses. Eleventh and 12th-grade students may take PSEO courses on a full- or part-time basis; 10th graders may take one career/technical PSEO course. If they earn at least a grade C in that class, they may take additional PSEO courses.

There is no charge to PSEO students for tuition, books or fees for items that are required to participate in a course. Students must meet the PSEO residency and eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.09. If a school district determines a pupil is not on track to graduate, she/he may continue to participate in PSEO. Funds are available to help pay transportation expenses for qualifying students to participate in PSEO courses on college campuses. Schools must provide information to all students in grades 8-11 and their families by March 1, every year. Students must notify their school by May 30 if they want to participate in PSEO for the following school year. For current information about the PSEO program, and to see the most current list of PSEO participating colleges,  go to MDE PSEO Page

***At Burnsville High School, students are required to attend a

mandatory information meeting in order to participate in the

P.S.E.O. program. Parents are strongly encouraged to also

attend. This informational meeting is held in February and

covers what PSEO is, how it works with BHS graduation

requirements, issues of full or part time, and much, much more.

As well, representatives of the most attended colleges for

P.S.E.O. are there to give more specific information about the

P.S.E.O. program at their college, and to pick up the P.S.E.O.

application for that college.

After the mandatory meeting, students must meet with their

Counselor by May 30th of that year to state that they intend to

participate the following fall.

This year (2017/18), the mandatory PSEO meeting will be held on

Tuesday February 20th at 7pm in the Mraz theater at BHS.

After this meeting, students who want to pursue their PSEO application will meet with their regular Counselor to get the supporting materials, as well as go through a credit evaluation. This can be scheduled through our Counseling secretary Deb Scherer at 952-707-2108 or at dscherer@isd191.org.

    Hello All!!

At this time, you should be receiving information from your PSEO college about selecting  college courses for next fall.  PLEASE make sure you are meeting with your BHS Counselor to review BHS graduation requirements and progress in meeting them, obtaining your 2018-2019 State form, and discussions about college plans for after graduation!  Once you have locked in your PSEO courses for next year, please communicate course title & credit value, as well as if you are taking any BHS classes (and when) to your Counselor.  Once we have that information, we can then adjust your fall BHS schedule.

ACT - STATE TEST DATE OF APRIL 3RD!! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR PSEO PROFESSORS ABOUT HAVING TO BE AT BHS THIS DAY!!  You will each be assigned a teacher & classroom to report to.  As soon as we have that info we will pass it along.  Even if you are taking the ACT on a National testing date (which we also recommend), you are still required to take the State test date at BHS!

If you would like testing review, study help, and practice....go to your Naviance account.  On the left side there is "Naviance Test Prep" where there are many options for ACT help.

If you are in danger of not passing a course, please meet with your BHS Counselor as soon as possible.

    Enjoy spring...it's coming soon!!

We are hoping that these last few weeks of your senior year are treating you great!!  Good luck to you as you enter into finals!

If you are worried about not passing a PSEO course that you need for meeting grad requirements, PLEASE contact your BHS Counselor immediately so we can work with you on a graduation plan!!

Please remember that you will need to come into BHS to sign a final transcript release form.  This would be required of whatever college you are attending next fall to show you did graduate from high school.  My guess is that you will also need your PSEO college to send transcripts as well to whatever college you are attending next fall.

Senior carnival at BHS is May 25th.

Finals week at BHS is the week of June 4, and last day of school is June 7.

Graduation rehearsal is Friday June 8th at 9am in BHS gym area.  This is required to attend!  Commencement ceremony is at 6pm - with students showing up at 5:30 for lineup.

Just a reminder for mid-year transcripts....these are not automatically sent.  You must request them to be sent and sign your release form at the BHS Counseling office.  Mid-year BHS transcripts will be ready to send by February 15th.

If your college for next fall is also asking for your PSEO college transcripts, you must request these separately from BHS, and directly from that college.

Happy 2018!!  I hope you all had a restorative and refreshing winter break!!

Seniors, please make sure you have checked with your BHS Counselor to make sure you are on track for graduation!  VERY IMPORTANT!!

On Tuesday February 20th, BHS will be holding its' annual PSEO Information night for those students interested in doing PSEO next fall for the first time. This is NOT a meeting for current PSEO students.  However, we always have a panel of current PSEO students answer some questions about their experiences in PSEO.  If you are interested in being on the student panel for the PSEO Info night, please email me at vmarshall@isd191.org as soon as you can.  I have about 4-5 students on the panel, and it's first come first serve and most PSEO students love doing this....so get a hold of me quick.

Final semester 1 grades will be posted "officially" on a transcript until after semester 1 at BHS, and post on transcripts mid-February.

    Thanks all!!
