WHAT IS P.S.E.O.?

(Post Secondary Enrollment Option)

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college-level, nonsectarian courses at eligible participating postsecondary institutions. Most PSEO courses are offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution; some courses are offered online. Each participating college or university sets its own requirements for enrollment into the PSEO courses. Eleventh and 12th-grade students may take PSEO courses on a full- or part-time basis; 10th graders may take one career/technical PSEO course. If they earn at least a grade C in that class, they may take additional PSEO courses.

There is no charge to PSEO students for tuition, books or fees for items that are required to participate in a course. Students must meet the PSEO residency and eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.09. If a school district determines a pupil is not on track to graduate, she/he may continue to participate in PSEO. Funds are available to help pay transportation expenses for qualifying students to participate in PSEO courses on college campuses. Schools must provide information to all students in grades 8-11 and their families by March 1, every year. Students must notify their school by May 30 if they want to participate in PSEO for the following school year. For current information about the PSEO program, and to see the most current list of PSEO participating colleges,  go to MDE PSEO Page

***At Burnsville High School, students are required to attend a

mandatory information meeting in order to participate in the

P.S.E.O. program. Parents are strongly encouraged to also

attend. This informational meeting is held in February and

covers what PSEO is, how it works with BHS graduation

requirements, issues of full or part time, and much, much more.

As well, representatives of the most attended colleges for

P.S.E.O. are there to give more specific information about the

P.S.E.O. program at their college, and to pick up the P.S.E.O.

application for that college.

After the mandatory meeting, students must meet with their

Counselor by May 30th of that year to state that they intend to

participate the following fall.

This year (2019/20_), the mandatory PSEO meeting will be in February. Date/Time/ Location will be announced later this fall.

After this meeting, students who want to pursue their PSEO application will meet with their regular Counselor to get the supporting materials, as well as go through a credit evaluation. This can be scheduled through our Counseling secretary Deb Scherer at 952-707-2108 or at dscherer@isd191.org.

    Hey All!!

BHS is on summer break.  All Counselors will not be in the office until August 26th.

If you could, please email your BHS Counselor your PSEO information for fall.  We will need:

    Course Title
Course credit value for each course
What - if any - classes you need to take at BHS

Because this is the first summer that Counselors will not be in during the summer (budget cuts), we are trying to be as proactive as possible by asking for this information to be sent.

For those of you who have had Mr. Hendricks as your Counselor, please know that he will join moving to our alternative high school, and you will be assigned a new Counselor at BHS when they are hired.

    ENJOY YOUR SUMMER ALL!!

    HI All -
I know you all have been emailed by our Principal about the change in ACT testing....here is what it is:

Because of a change in state law, Burnsville High School will be able to hold the ACT test for all 11th grade students as originally planned on Thursday, April 4.

All other students in grades 9, 10 and 12 will not attend school on April 4th.

This provides the best possible testing environment for our students and we are very thankful that the state has given us this opportunity.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Principal Dave Helke at dhelke@isd191.org or by phone at 952-707-2101.

    Hi All -

We are nearing the end of the school year & we hope all is going well for you!!  Please make sure you have ordered your cap & gown through your 2019 Schoology page.  Also, if you are owing any kind of fine at BHS (past or present) that is still unpaid, you name will not appear on the "walk" list.  If you do have fines please take care of them as soon as possible in the attendance area with Mrs. Beckers.

If you are feeling like you're not going to pass a required course that you need for graduation, please speak with your BHS Counselor IMMEDIATELY so that a graduation plan can be discussed.

Good luck all & have a GREAT April!!
