I am pleased to be your child’s special education teacher/case manager for the new school year. This is my sixth year working with this 7th grade team and my sixth year teaching. I am a proud mother of four children ages 12, 8, 5 and 11 months. I enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to meeting and working with all of my new students starting on Sept. 6th. I also look forward to meeting and working with my students’ parents as well. This letter is just a simple way to welcome students and parents back to school. There are a lot of new opportunities for students this year and I look forward to making your child’s year a great one! I will be team teaching in science for one hour to provide support to students in that class. I will also be team teaching in math for one hour to provide support to students in that class. I will be teaching one small group math class at grade level for students that need extensive help in math. I will also be teaching a social skills class this year for students that need more in depth help with social behavior and/or communication. If your child is enrolled in any small group class they may have me as a teacher or one of the other 7th or 8th grade special education teachers as an instructor. Placement is based, of course, on the needs of students. Also, this year we will have a scheduled 25 minute Power Hour to meet with students to work on organizational skills, self-advocacy skills, and help with homework and make-up work. Even with this (small) amount of time, it will still be important for students to use class time given by teachers to complete homework as much as possible. Your student may be assigned this class with me or another teacher on the team. My two main goals this year are to provide the support students on an IEP need to be successful in the classroom and to help students become self-advocates in communicating their individual needs to teachers. To ensure that your child has success it is also important for parents to be involved in their education as well. Take the time to talk to your child about what is happening at school as well as checking their agenda books for daily assignments, tests, and important information. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me using the information below. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
