I received my degree in mathematics, and license to teach, at Bemidji State University in 1998. In 2009 I received my Master's degree in mathematics education from St. Cloud State University.
Every 8th grade student in Minnesota takes algebra, but there are two different levels of algebra offered in Brainerd.
All students are required to have a calculator, graph paper, notebook paper and pencils.
The accelerated mathematics course is titled intermediate algebra and has a pre-requisite that students have succuessfully completed one year of algebra in 7th grade. After a short review of linear algebra concepts, students will expore systems of equations, polynomial operations, quadratic equations and exponetial operations.
***TI-84+ graphing calculator recommended for this course.
The non-accelerated course is titled Algebra. This course is an in-depth exploration of linear algebra and an introduction into polynomials, exponential rules and the Pythagorean Theorem.
***A scientific calculator is sufficient for this course.
