"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." — Arthur O'Shaughnessy (Poems of Arthur O'Shaughnessy)

The Band program is directed by JoAnne Hillyer. All students in 5th grade are given the opportunity to participate. Students are required to attend weekly 1/2 hour small group lessons and encouraged to practice their instruments on a daily basis (90 - 150 minutes per week). Instruments available to the students are the oboe, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, F horn, trombone, baritone horn, tuba and percussion (previous piano experience preferred.)

The curriculum focuses on playing from a band method book, supplementary exercises and technique builders as well as learning to read band music. Students develop critical listening and begin to think creatively through musical expression. A sense of pride, satisfaction, teamwork, cooperation and self-discipline is developed in band rehearsals.

We are a beginner band (first year players). The beginner band rehearses for approximately 60 minutes every week beginning in the last week of October, scheduled during the school day within the 5th grade curriculum.
