Topic: Cybersecurity and COVID-19 Vaccines
Abstract:
We are at a moment in history. The COVID-19 pandemic will be remembered as one of the defining events in our lifetimes.
Soon, we expect to see the implementation of a worldwide vaccination program. The scientific challenges to find vaccines were large and the manufacturing and logistical challenges are going to be big, too. As far as we know, the past year’s worth of scientific research and development has been secure. However, it is not for the lack of attacks.
This presentation will discuss the attack surface of the overall vaccine development and delivery system and some of the news items that have appeared on the subject of cybersecurity relative to these efforts. Topics to be addressed include intellectual property, manufacturing systems, and supply chains. Not the least of the concerns is the potential for misinformation and disinformation that could discourage people from being vaccinated.

David Snyder helps organizations develop and implement new technologies and keep them secure. His experience includes companies like Apple, Google, Kaiser Permanente, PayPal, Yahoo!, and various startups for healthcare systems, electronic payments, mobile applications, and data security. 42TEK, Inc. (www.42tek.com) is Mr. Snyder’s consulting company.
David is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and a California-registered Civil Engineer (PE). He is currently researching cybersecurity for network-connected medical devices and Industrial Control Systems. Earlier in his career, David was an environmental engineer and before that a Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician working in hospital Intensive Care Units.
David is a past board member of the Northern California Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and has been the organizer, moderator, or speaker for more than 20 conferences and seminars on healthcare, data security, and payments topics, including the Cybersecurity for Medical Devices is a “Team Sport” workshop and Cybersecurity & the Future of Remote Patient Monitoring.
