Assistant Professor in International Relations

The Instituto de Ciencia Política of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invites applications for a tenure track, full-time position (44 hours a week) in International Relations at the level of Assistant Professor. Initial appointment is for a period of two years and renewable on a permanent basis, pending an academic evaluation at the end of the two year period. Salary is according to the level of Assistant Professor as defined in the university´s salary scale. This is new position geared to strengthen the Ph. D. Program in a growing department. Applicants must hold a PhD in Political Science (or its equivalent) and preferably should be available in March 2010.

Teaching obligations involve three courses per year at the. Fluency in Spanish for teaching purposes is highly valued, but candidates who express the willingness to perfect basic proficiency also may apply. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality research and publication.

The Instituto de Ciencia Política is the oldest department of Political Science in the country and is highly regarded in Latin America. It offers undergraduate, MA and PhD programs. The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile is one of the most prestigious higher education and research institutions in the region. D. degree and three professional letters of recommendation by October 15, 2009. Final candidates will be required to deliver a job talk to faculty and graduate students.

The position is funded through loan N° 7317-CH granted by the IBRD to the Republic of Chile to partially finance Project PUC0701 “Consolidación Planta Docente Programa de Doctorado en Ciencia Política”. The Project is part of the Program “Improvement in the Quality and Equity of Higher Education, MECESUP(2)” in charge of the Chilean Ministry of Education. Final selection for this position requires the screening and joint approval of both the P. Universidad Católica de Chile and the Chilean Ministry of Education, Program Mecesup2.
