Professorship in political science with special duties in parliamentary research.

The Department of Political Science of the University of Copenhagen invites applications from political science candidates for a temporary professorial position in political science with special duties to strengthen at the international level the Department’s research and teaching within the field of parliamentary research. Appointment is to be made as soon as possible.

The tenure of the professorship is 5 years with the possibility of an extension of up to 3 years. When the professorship expires, the appointee is ensured employment and remuneration as associate professor. 

Qualifications and Job Description

The academic qualifications sought correspond to those that are for normal professorial positions. The successful candidate will be expected to meet the following special duties to strengthen and contribute to the development of theoretical and empirical research and teaching in the field of parliamentary research with special emphasis on the Danish parliament, its external relations to the ministries and the EU and the international theoretical and methodological development within the field of parliamentary research.

Duties attached to the position are furthermore:
  • Research within the field of parliamentary affairs.
  • Teaching, supervision and examination of undergraduate (bachelor) and post-graduate (kandidat and Ph.D.) students on the politics program (cand. scient. pol.), plus new fields for teaching linked to the political science discipline which may be developed in the future.
  • Participation in administrative tasks related to teaching and research.
  • Active participation in the Department’s strategy for internationalization of both its teaching and its research.
  • Active participation in the Department’s strategy for external fundraising.
  • Active participation in the Department’s communications with the Danish and international communities.

Salary and conditions of Employment

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). In addition to the salary, allowances can be negotiated. The annual salary is currently DKK 566,315 (EUR 76.000),, exclusive of a pension contribution of 17.1 %. A special 33% tax scheme is offered for up to three years to researchers recruited abroad (please see http://ism.ku.dk/taxes).

  • The application should include a full curriculum vitae detailing the candidate’s education, teaching experience and training, research record and international research cooperation. A complete, numbered list of publications should be enclosed.
  • The enclosed publications – maximum 10 - that you wish the Assessment Committee to consider should be marked with an asterisk (*). Please note that only hard-copies (books, booklets) of publications will be returned.
  • Documentation of experience with managing research projects.
  • Documentation of teaching management, teaching experience and evaluation, supervisory activities and pedagogical training.
  • The applicant should also submit documentation for ability to disseminate knowledge to the wider world.
Submitted publications that are the result of a joint effort, the extent and the nature of the applicant’s contribution to each individual work must be clarified in the application, and if possible, a declaration from the co-authors or the head of the institution or office at which the work was completed should be enclosed. 

The Dean will announce the Assessment Committee after the application deadline. It should be noted that the Assessment Committee may require supplementary academic documentation in connection with the deliberation. If so, the respective applicants will be notified.

When the Assessment Committee has completed its deliberation, each applicant will receive only the part of the Committee’s assessment that concerns the applicant him- or herself.
