Assistant Professor, International Relations
The SUNY College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor in International Relations, beginning August, 2010. The initial appointment will be for two years. Expectations include teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development. The College at Oneonta has 5,800 students and approximately 450 faculty and offers over 60 undergraduate majors and nine graduate majors. The student to faculty ratio is approximately 17: 1. In the U.S. News rankings of “America’s Best Colleges 2010,” SUNY Oneonta received its highest ranking ever: 10th among public colleges and 45th overall among masters-granting universities in the North. The six-member Political Science Department offers undergraduate programs in political science and international studies. Duties: Teach undergraduate courses in international relations; engage in student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development. The successful candidate will be broadly trained in international relations, with preferred expertise in international law and international organizations, and American foreign policy and national/international security. Candidates will be required to teach our standard introductory course in this area. A strong interest in offering a simulation based course, e.g. Model UN, EuroSim, etc., would be considered an asset.
Required Qualifications: PhD in Political Science or closely related field, commitment to teaching excellence, and evidence of scholarly activity. ABD considered, completed degree required by December 1st of 2010.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates who can demonstrate competence in a regional specialty outside of Africa and East Asia--the areas currently covered by the Department’s faculty--will be given special attention.
