Distinguished Board of Advisors

We would like to acknowledge our board of advisors whose insight, rolodex, and experience, have helped Toys2Life make better strategy decisions and, in the end, more fun for kids.

Mark D. Gross, Ph.D.

Mark D. Gross is Professor of computer science and the director of the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is cofounder of Modular Robotics Incorporated and Blank Slate Systems LLC. He taught Computational Design in the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University from 2004–2013, at the University of Washington Seattle from 1999–2004, and at the University of Colorado’s Environmental Design program from 1990–1999. His research interests include sketch-based interaction, computational design and construction kits, tangible interaction, architectural robotics, creativity, and modular robotics for education. In 2009 he was Program Chair for the ACM Creativity and Cognition conference and in 2011 General Chair for ACM Tangible Embedded Embodied Interaction. Earlier Gross worked on constraint programming languages and sketch recognition: he is known for his early work on “The Electronic Cocktail Napkin”, domain-independent end-user programmable sketch recognition software. Before pursuing an academic career, Gross worked at the Architecture Machine Group at MIT, the MIT Logo Lab, Logo Computer Systems Inc., and Atari Cambridge Research. He holds a B.S. and Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


Brian Baker

Brian Baker is the managing partner of First User Group, an innovation product company headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. First User Group has dozens of products in the marketplace today, including toys for Disney, TV’s via LG, and software that powers the world’s largest retailers and news organizations. Brian’s designs touch 90% of Americans every day.

Brian was named ‘Inventor of the Year’ in Colorado and is an Innovation Judge for the International Consumer Electronics Show. He is a startup investor and mentors at Boomtown Boulder.


Sam Davenport
Sam Davenport

Sam Davenport is CEO of Continental Control Systems, an energy meter manufacturing company in Longmont, Colorado. His background is in accounting and operations. Sam has an interest in technology startups and entrepreneurship.

Justin Croft Ethington

Justin Croft Ethington is a thought-leadership market researcher who has been hired by Qualtrics, Pinterest, 3M, Disney, GoPro, TD Ameritrade, Ski Utah, Better Homes and Gardens, and Canon to conduct thought-leadership research that makes headlines and provokes change. His specialties lie in Consumer Insight, Market Research, Thought-Leadership research, Content Marketing, and CX.
