Social Studies

Students are learning about how America grew and expanded after the Revolutionary War.  They are discovering how people in power shaped the decisions of the young country. In addition, classes are discussing reasons and motivations for why people explored and settled in the west.

Math

Seventh grade students have been engaged in test prep for the past month.  In order to prepare them for the upcoming Math State Test, teachers have been reviewing all content from the beginning of the year.  Students have been working out of workbooks that are aligned with the standards and provide them with practice problems.

Science

The 7th grade science classes are completing a unit on energy and matter. The unit began with the exploration of  the different phases of matter: solid, liquid and gas. Students are currently using both triple beam balances and graduated cylinders in order to determine the mass, volume and density of both regular and irregular solids. These specific skills are preparing the students for the eighth grade New York State Science test which they will be taking in the Spring of 2019.

ELA

This month we are finishing our year with

Lyddie

The students will be reading and analyze text for central ideas, text structure and figurative language. They will be studying the Industrial revolution and the role of child labor in US history. An argumentative essay will be the focus of this unit.

ELA


For this unit, 8th grade students will be exploring urban culture and debatable topics through a Walter Dean Myers book study.
Students will be involved in discussion based activities as well as research based projects. In this unit, we aim to guide students to take on a leadership role in displaying solutions for current issues urban communities face.



Social Studies


Students will be studying the events of the Cold War, such as the Korean & Vietnam Wars, the Space Race and the Arms Race. In May, students will be studying America post World War II, such as the growth of suburbia, the migration of Americans to warmer climates, and the Civil Rights Movement.  

Science


In April, 8th grade general science students will be learning about the revolution of the earth and the moon and the rotation of earth. In May, students will be preparing for their state Science exam.
In the 8th grade regents class, students will be studying the Earth's history in the month of April. In May, students will cover astronomy, weather, topography and begin prepping for their state exam in June.


Math

Students will be working on test prep to prepare for the upcoming state assessment.  After the test, the students will be working on a unit in Pythagorean Theorem and rational and irrational numbers.  The Regents class will continue to prepare for the Regents exam and will be studying functions and statistics.
