              A New School Year!

We are thrilled to welcome your first grade students to our classrooms and excited to partner with you in their growth!

We will begin the school year learning classrooms routines, expectations and how to be Respectful, Responsible and Safe Clow Cougars!

Once we have settled into our class routines we will begin growing our ability to work independently in our Literacy Centers. During Centers your student will be involved in writing, reading, spelling, grammar & LMC activities.
This is a challenging step toward independence for first graders to take and they will be working hard on using their time wisely and working quietly.

Each week we are also looking to grow our understanding of what "quality" work looks like. We like to say "extra effort is extra special"!
We appreciate your support in looking over classwork that arrives home and discussing quality effort with your students.

Please look for daily math homework in Take Home Folders. We encourage parents to assist their students with homework and we ask that students return completed homework the next day. This helps build responsibility! Friday homework is optional. Remember that you may use the Zearn Math Site to review lessons that we have taught and Dreambox for leveled learning!

Your learner will be assigned weekly
high frequency word homework to assist them in practicing to read and spell their weekly words that you will find written in your student's planner. Each Friday we will
check to see if student's are able to read these words and spell them correctly in their writing. Click on the Word Study tab to the left for some other fun ideas of ways you can practice! Turn in Weekly Spelling Homework on Fridays!

Reading with or to your learner every night is important as students benefit from both listening to fluent reading and practicing using reading strategies with new print. Remember to turn in Reading Logs each Monday!

Click on the Newsletter tab to the left for more detailed information regarding curriculum and special activities happening each week!
