        Welcome Spring!

We continue to grow our ability to work independently in our Literacy Centers. This is a challenging step toward independence for first graders to take and they are working hard on using their time wisely and working quietly. Each week we are also looking to grow our understanding of what "quality" work looks like. We like to say "extra effort is extra special"!
We appreciate your support in looking over classwork that arrives home and discussing quality effort with your students.

Please look for daily math homework in Take Home Folders. We encourage parents to assist their students with homework and we ask that students return completed homework the next day. This helps build responsibility! Friday homework is optional. Remember that you may use the Zearn Math Site to review lessons that we have taught and Front Row Math for leveled learning!

Each student is creating a slide presentation in Google Classroom using the information they gathered during their weather research! Our caterpillars have arrived for observation as we conclude the year with our final science unit on BUGS!

During the month of May
we continue to focus on adding details to our writing and forming strong topic sentences and conclusions. Students are learning how adding transitions helps to connect ideas. We encourage students to submit written manuscripts to the Clow Publishing Center that they might enjoy writing at home! Everyone has completed 1 book...why not another!

Practice weekly
high frequency words that you will find written in your student's planner. Each Friday we will check to see if student's are able to read these words and spell them correctly in their writing. Click on the Word Study tab to the left for some fun ideas of ways you can practice!

In December, First Graders were introduced to beginning coding skills in the computer lab! Ask your student where they can explore this exciting topic on the Clow School Bag! In January we introduced our students to Google Drive and Google Classroom! Now we will explore Google Slides!

Click on the Newsletter tab to the left for more detailed information regarding curriculum and special activities happening each week!
