You can use prefixes to quickly search for specific types of records in NetSuite.
Here are some common record types:
Contact
Client/Prospect/Lead ***see note at end
Opportunity
Project
To search for a specific type of record, type the name of the record type followed by a colon, then your search term.
You don't have to type out the whole name of the record type! Using "co:" returns the same results as "contact:".
In addition to records, you can also use prefixes to look for saved searches and reports. The distinction between the two is mostly in how they are constructed, but:
If you are looking for something that looks like the Promise Report (a report where you can expand rows to see more detail, may have subtotals for groups), use the prefix "page:"
page: Promise Report
If you are looking for something that looks like the My Active Projects list (a simple table with rows and columns), use the prefix "search:"
search: My Active Projects
A note on company records (clients/prospects/leads):
You can turn on a preference so that when you search for clients, all companies appear regardless of whether they've bought from us or not. I recommend doing this so you only have to use one prefix when searching for companies and you don't have to know whether they're a client or not.
To turn this preference on:
Move your mouse over the Home icon at the top left of your screen and click "Set Preferences".
Click on the "Analytics" tab.
Make sure the "Global search client prefix includes leads and prospects" checkbox is checked.
