Investments

We make investments with our own capital, and we manage investments on behalf of third parties. We assess risk through fundamental, bottoms-up research about our investees. Owing to our banking heritage, we seek to build lasting relationships with our investors and managers.

Following is a list of our investment transactions.

Asian Finance & Investment Corporation Ltd.
We acquired all the assets, staff and operations of AFIC and its affiliates from Actis Assets Fund 2 L.P. AFIC was founded in 1989 by the Asian Development Bank and other leading investors to undertake private sector investments across the Asia-Pacific region. AFIC was a leading lender to companies across Asia.

We completed various resolutions and recoveries of AFIC’s outstanding credit and equity positions in the Philippines, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan and Papua New Guinea, generating significant returns.

  Piper Aircraft, Inc.
With capital provided by the Government of Brunei, we purchased Piper Aircraft, Inc. Founded in 1937 and based in Vero Beach, FL, Piper is one of the world’s leading general aviation brands. Following a change of management, we successfully restored Piper’s core operations to profitability in the first quarter of 2011 and oversaw an investment and product development program geared to enhancing the international sales activities and long term competitiveness of the company.
