I am very excited to be working with your children again this year and we have lots of exciting learning opportunities and activities coming up.

If you ever have any questions about school or your child's learning please come in to have a chat, Mrs Hamblin, Mrs Pascoe and I are always very happy to help.

 Topics

We have planned a range of interesting topics that’ll capture the children’s imagination and interest which also meet the needs of the National Curriculum.

During the autumn term we will be focusing on science and our topics will be ‘Living things and their habitats’ and ‘Darwin and evolution’.

In the spring term our main focus moves to history and RE and we’ll be learning about Judaism and World War 2.

We finish the year with a geography and music focus which has us comparing and contrasting New York and Las Vegas.

Year 6 Homework

Homework will be set weekly. This will include spellings and extra maths practise. This may be online or in homework workbooks which will be provided by the school.

 Reading

All children will have levelled accelerated reader books. Once finished these are quizzed on in school. We would ask that children are encouraged to read these books to support their progress through the program.

Alongside this it would be lovely for your children to be encouraged to read for fun and enjoyment- as settling down with a good book really can be one of life’s little pleasures.

 Coming up this half term

This half term we will be continuing to focus on science. We will be following on from the exciting introduction the space dome provided us in September by looking into the life and discoveries of Charles Darwin.
We will also be developing our artist sides with an artist study of Vincent Van Gogh.
Alongside all of that, we will of course be getting excited about our Christmas festivities and events.

Homework:

Homework will be set weekly. This will include a rolling program of spellings and maths practise using the GPC books.
Extra maths practise may be set using the online program MyMaths.
