Hello and Welcome to Year 3!

I am very excited to be working with your children again this year and we have lots of exciting learning opportunities and activities coming up.

If you ever have any questions about school or your child's learning please come in to have a chat, Mrs Dustow and I are always very happy to help.

Topics

During the Autumn Term we will be finding out why humans are animals too and going back in time to the stone age to find out more about the lives and legacy of this country’s early settlers.

Our spring term topics will start with a focus on local art and artists. Following on from that, the class will become scientists and archaeologists as they discover more about rocks, jewels and fossils.

Our summer term topic ‘From source to sea’ will see us investigating the importance of water to all life forms and to end the year we will be finding out about the fascinating lives of the Romans.

Year 3 Homework

Reading

We would encourage you to listen to your child read as much as possible. We do understand that after school clubs and general life can sometimes get in the way so we ask for at least 10mins  , 4 times a week. This can be recorded in your child’s reading record.

Spellings

We use the ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’ strategy. Your child can practise their spellings on their homework sheet or on any other piece of paper. We will not check up on whether they are practising but there will be a spelling test every Wednesday. New spelling lists will also come home on a Wednesday.

Maths

We regularly use ICT to help us with maths. If you have access to a computer then Topmarks is a great resource for a variety of extra maths practise. We will not be sending formal, weekly maths homework home at this point however your child may, from time to time, come home with something to practise.
