Welcome to Year 3

We are delighted to be working with your children this year and we have got an actioned packed year planned.  Mornings will be focused on the core building blocks of reading, writing and maths.  These areas will be boosted with shorter SPAG, spellings and numeracy skills sessions.   There will be two PE sessions a week; indoor on a Monday and outside on a Wednesday (weather permitting).

Year 3 Topics

Autumn 1

This half term we will be looking at Stone Age Britain.  We will be finding out about life in the Stone Age as a hunter gather and comparing our own lives and lifestyles in the modern age.  We will also be looking at Stone Age homes, tools and animals as we move through time towards the Iron Age.

Autumn 2

Our topic for this half term is Animals including Humans.  In this unit we will be looking at nutrition and diet,  discussing the difference between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores,  comparing various skeletons and identifying how they are adapted for purpose.

Year 3 Homework

Reading – We encourage parents to listen, read and share books as much as possible at home.  Reading diaries will be sent home to record any reading that you share with your child.  We hope that children will aim to read at least  5 out of 7 days and children will be rewarded  for regular reading.

Spellings – All children have a weekly spelling test every Monday.  New spellings for the following week are then sent out on Tuesday.

Maths – We encourage parents to support their child with optional extra maths at home.  There will be a time table of the week and a test each Friday.

Please do come and see us if you have any questions or queries, our door is always open.
