About the Workshop:
IIIT-Delhi is pleased to announce the 5-day workshop on the Internet of Things (IoT) from Dec. 17-21, 2019. The workshop is sponsored by AICTE under AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy initiative. The workshop will have fourteen expert sessions conducted by speakers from Industry as well as Academia. These sessions are divided into four major domains: 

1) "Things" in IoT
2) "Internet" of IoT
3) Big data and AI in IoT
4) Security in IoT


Important Notes:
  • The workshop is mainly suitable for faculty in various AICTE affiliated engineering institutions in India. 
  • The registration is FREE but the number of registrations is limited to 50 only. 
  • Venue: A006, IIIT-Delhi.
  • A registration kit will be provided to all the registered participants. 
  • Please note that the participation certificate will be provided only on attending all the sessions and passing the final day examination. 
  • Accommodation: Hostel is available on sharing basis at a rate of Rs. 400/- per night per candidate (Single or Double sharing rooms can be allotted based on availability). Guest House is also available at a rate of 2360/- per night. The payment should be made in advance at the time of check-in. Please intimate us at rahul@iiitd.ac.in beforehand if you want to avail the facility.

Abstract: Today IoT is touching all our lives. As per Industry estimates in next 10 years, 50 Billion devices will be connected on Internet of Things.
One technology that is expanding very fast is Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh Networking. This technology allows any-to-many nodes communication over Bluetooth radio. The Bluetooth Mesh specifications were defined in 2017. STMicroelectronics developed the solution to support this technology and got the solution certified from Bluetooth SIG.
Alok will speak in-depth on this technology informing about its inbuilt security mechanisms and use-cases.

Abstract: Around 2008-09 the term IoT was coined by Kevin Ashton MIT, Auto-ID Centre, 1999. Since then it has proliferated for doing smart and automated activities. IoT suggests to keep every object on the earth over the Internet. It has become possible with the development of the IPv6 in place of IPv4. Besides, back end technology from Cloud Computing and Big data technology are also have been supportive in the proliferation of IoT. Now researchers are talking about making IoT intelligent to realize the dream of complete automation. IoT amounts to great deal of research by the researchers/academicians/Scientists of various discipline viz. Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Statistics and Mathematics. The talk is supposed to give an overview of IoT, what is the meaning of Intelligent in IoT, its various applications and the issues involved.

Talk Title: Eziosense: Low-cost and Trustworthy IoT Device for Particulate Matter Related Research in Developing Countries
Abstract: Particulate Matter (PM) needs to be measured at scale across urban areas. Factors potentially affecting PM also need to be computed simultaneously, for fine-grained correlation analyses. Otherwise, policies for PM control will continue to be political rhetoric in developing countries like India. The talk presents Eziosense, an IoT platform to measure PM and associated factors affecting PM, for data driven analyses. Cost vs. performance trade-offs have been carefully analyzed to build Eziosense, for scalable deployment of the low cost devices. The resultant low-cost, trustworthy IoT platforms have been extensively evaluated with performance benchmarks, static industry standard EBAM deployments.

Abstract: Device-to-device (D2D) and Visible Light are new communication paradigms which has proposed recently to meet the communication requirement for IoT devices. In this talk, I will discuss these technologies in detail and also deliberate how these can facilitate high throughput, low latency communications in IoT. I will also share some of the current analytical, simulation and measurement results obtained by our research group in this direction.

Talk Title: On multi-hop broadcast strategies in Industrial IoT (IIoT) networks.
Abstract: In this talk, we start with a brief discussion on industrial IoT systems and their wireless connectivity needs. Then we study an industrial automation scenario where a central controller communicates with wireless devices in the downlink. A framework is devised where the data-rate requirement of devices is modeled based on the density of roaming blockages over the factory floor. To alleviate the loss in coverage, we adopt a multi-phase transmission policy, where, in the first phase, the central controller broadcasts the messages intended for the devices in the network area. The devices in coverage in the first phase, act as decode-and-forward relays in the second phase, so as to reinforce the signal strength at the devices in outage. We will discuss the advantages and pitfalls of such multi-hop strategies and how to tune them according to the QoS needs of the IIoT systems.
