The Return of Maths with a Micro
I have a lot of old booklets from the early 1980s by The Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM) and West Sussex Institute of Higher Education (WSIHE) when we experimented with using BBC BASIC to learn maths through programming. The programs were always short and to the point.
I still mourn the passing of that language (I know emulators are still available) because it had a simplicity missing in more recent languages. Nevertheless I decided to try to translate as many of those old programs as I could into Python, firstly to help me learn Python and secondly to investigate whether maths and programming could still support one another.
The activities are intended to support a topic, not to provide a replacement textbook!
If this project has legs I might later reorder the programs I've used if that gives a more useful progression but we shall see.
