The role of a school nurse is to assist with the educational process by improving and monitoring the health status of all students.  We focus on prevention of illness and early detection and correction of health problems.  We provide the following services:

  • Assessment and follow-up of acute and chronic medical issues.
  • Screening- vision and hearing screenings as ordered by the state. Height, weight and baseline blood pressure on elementary and intermediate students as part of the Watch Me Grow program.
  • General medication administration.
  • Immunization tracking and completing annual ODH Immunization Report.
  • Crisis management such as injury.
  • Assist with developing policies.
  • Monitoring AED's in the school.
  • Education of staff regarding medication administration and student health issues.
  • CPR training to staff and students.
  • Classroom education as requested.
  • Grant writing.
  • Coordination and collaboration with parents, community health providers and staff members.
