School Counseling Program Mission

The mission of the Hunt School counseling program is to provide a comprehensive developmental school counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students to enable them to be productive members of society.  Through the partnership of the counselor, administration, students, families and community, students will be better equipped to successfully meet challenges in each developmental area.

What is a Comprehensive Counseling Program?
A comprehensive counseling program is a counseling

program that proactively addresses all areas of student

development:  academic, personal/social, and career.  The

program strives to help each student reach his or her

potential and utilizes a balanced approach of consultation,

collaboration, coordination, counseling, education,

advocacy, and leadership (Dollarhide & Saginak, 2012, p.

51-52).

Elementary Guidance Curriculum

Academic Development:
Lessons will be presented throughout the year to help students develop good study skills, study habits, and goal-setting.  Strategies for building confidence and comfort in academically challenging situations will also be delivered.

Personal/Social:
The lessons will focus on building self-esteem, social skills, and emotional learning.  Students will learn about components of healthy friendships, manners, nonviolent conflict resolution, and positive character traits.

Career Development:
Lessons will introduce elementary grade students to the "World of Work" through Kuder Explorer online program.  Students will begin to identify various interests through the program and explore career clusters.  Professionals from the community will present at various times throughout the year to expose students to multiculturalism in the career world.
