Welcome back! I'm very excited to meet you and explore the wonderful world of science!
~Mrs. Jacobs
Here is what is happening in Science right now...
6th Grade - Learning about Microorganisms, cell theory, types of cells, and cell organelles and their functions
7th Grade - Just finished with their Evolution Unit and will finish the year out learning about the moon phases and eclipses
8th Grade - Learning about Levels of Organization in humans (cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, organisms) and the interacting body systems
Once we finish up a unit, I like the students to compete in an engineering design challenge before just jumping into the next unit. Engineering Design challenges help students with a variety of skills such as problem-solving, creativity, perseverance, and collaboration. Seventh grade did a spaghetti tower engineering design challenge where they had to build the tallest spaghetti tower that could support the weight of one marshmallow. Sixth grade and eighth grade completed the paper tower engineering design challenge where they had to build the tallest tower that could support the weight of one can of food.
