6th grade: 6th grade is studying module 2: Hero's Journey and learning about the monomyth genre, vocabulary, plot structure, and character archetypes. Our second novel in the module is The Odyssey, a tale from ancient Greece. The students will have a vocabulary assessment and Socratic Seminar before Christmas. They will soon create a presentation analyzing character archetypes and hero's journey stages in The Odyssey, and eventually in a text of their choice.

7th grade: 7th grade's second module 2 novel is Farewell to Manzanar, a memoir by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston about her time at Manzanar, a Japanese internment camp in California during World War II. We are analyzing central ideas in the novel through an informative writing piece and reviewing for a vocabulary assessment before Christmas. We also had great class discussions in Socratic Seminar!
