6th grade: 6th grade is studying module 3: Narrating the Unknown. We read two nonfiction pieces about the Jamestown settlement: "Rethinking Jamestown" article and excerpts from Written in Bone.  The students are conducting a research project to present to class. They each created a topic to dive deeper into the Jamestown settlement such as: "Who is John Smith? What happened during the drought? What crafts/games did they create?" etc  We learned about valid/reliable/credible sources, took notes from the sources, and will design a poster. The 6th grade vocabulary quiz is on March 2.

7th grade: 7th grade is in the midst of module 3: The Power of Language. We are currently reading Animal Farm with a focus on characterization, historical connections/allegory, vocabulary, theme, and more. The students have had great discussions in class! We will study argument writing in module 3 through creating and supporting a claim with reasons, evidence, and elaboration. The 7th grade vocabulary quiz is on Feb. 26.
