6th grade: 6th grade is studying module 2: Hero's Journey and learning about the genre, vocabulary, plot structure, and character archetypes. Our first novel is Ramayana, a tale from India. The students will have a vocabulary assessment and will write their first FQT about characters archetypes and plot structure.

7th grade: 7th grade's module 2 novel is Code Talker, which focuses on the Navajo Code Talkers in World War II.  We are looking at themes and central ideas in the novel, including how Ned's Navajo identity gives him strength in times of challenge. The students shared feedback that they are enjoying the novel so far, especially the social studies connections. We have had great class discussions with Socratic Seminar!
