Thank you for visiting my website!  I began teaching at Hardyston in 2004 as a 1st grade teacher.  Two years later, I moved to 2nd grade.  Two years later I found my home in BSI and Math.  I LOVE what I do!  I teach math daily to 3rd & 4th graders and teach BSI-(LA) to students in 1st, 2nd and 4th grade this year.
I grew up on Long Island and moved to NJ in 1997.  I have 2 daughters and live in town.  My oldest is in fourth grade and my youngest in first! I am very lucky to work in such a wonderful place with such talented people.

 * I know that many of you have questions and concerns about the PARCC. You can sign up for email updates at news@parcconline.org  There is some great information there and I think it will help ease your minds a little in regards to the test. *

3rd Grade Math:
Please know vocabulary is a very big part of math.  Every chapter test will include a vocabulary part.  The words are cut and stapled the first day we begin a new chapter.  The students are supposed to be bringing these home daily to go over and learn.  When they leave my classroom, I do not know what goes home with them.  Because I only see them for 2 periods a day, please make sure they are doing so.

We finished Chapter 13, "Perimeter and Area".  We will not be taking a chapter test right now, as we need to move on to Fractions.  We will continue reviewing area and perimeter throughout the rest of the year.

We are beginning Chapter 10, "Fractions" today, March 16th.  The lessons include:
*  Unit Fractions
*  Part of a Whole
*  Part of a Set
*  Draw a Diagram
*  Fractions on a Number Line
*  Equivalent Fractions
*  Fractions as One Whole
*  Compare Fractions

VOCABULARY:  fraction, unit fraction, numerator, denominator, equivalent fractions

A set of multiplication flashcards were sent home with EVERY student on January 10.  They are to cut out all of the facts to study DAILY. We have now gone over and learned ALL of them with the exception of the 12's table.   They also have in their math folders a list of the facts to practice from and refer back to.  The flashcards only go up to the 10's table.  The 11 and 12's will be provided at a later date.  We will continue to take timed tests 1-2 times a week for fluency.

PLEASE Do your part...take 10-20 minutes of your time to review addition, subtraction and multiplication facts each night!  MEMORIZE!!!  The students are supposed to have these mastered with a 3 second recall without using their fingers!  Please talk to your child about following directions while doing their homework.  This skill is very important when in class doing independent work.  I often have the students do work on their own after we have gone over directions, but they need to make sure they are answering what the question asks for.

Our math book can be found online. I sent home the information on how to go about accessing this on September 8th with the students.
