NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING: May 9, 2017

 

VOTE ON BUDGET AND PROPOSITIONS: May 16, 2017

 

A budget hearing for the inhabitants of the Hunter-Tannersville Central School District qualified to vote at the School District meeting will be held at the Hunter Elementary School, commencing at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 where there shall be presented the proposed school district budget for the following school year.

 

Date of Vote

The vote on the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures or for any propositions involving the expenditure of money or the authorization for the levy of taxes as well as the election of two members to the Board of Education shall be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Hunter Elementary School.

 

Statement of Money Required for Next School Year

A copy of the statement of the amount of money which would be required for the next school year for school purposes shall be completed seven days before the budget hearing and may be obtained by any resident of the district at each school building during the period 14 days immediately before the annual meeting and election between the hours of 8:00a.m and 3:00 p.m. except Saturday, Sunday or a holiday.

 

Vote for Board Member(s)

Petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., no later than April 17, 2017. The following seat is to be filled on the Board of Education as follows: A five year-term ending June 30, 2022 and presently held by Marianne Romito. The petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, be signed by at least twenty-five qualified voters of the district, list the residence of each signer, the name and residence of the candidate, and describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated, including at least the length of the term of the office and the name of the incumbent.

 

Absentee Ballots

Applications for absentee ballots will be available at the District Office in Tannersville, NY.  Such applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the absentee voter. Absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk not later than 5 p.m. on the day of the vote, May 16, 2017. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots have been issued shall be available for public inspection during regular office hours, which are between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Any qualified voter, can upon examination of such list, file written challenge of qualifications of a voter or any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for the challenge. Such written challenge shall be transmitted by the Clerk or designee to the Inspector of Elections on Election Day.

 

NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Registration will meet at Hunter Elementary School in Hunter, New York,  in said School District on the 5th  day of May 2017 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. prevailing time, to prepare the register of the School District for said district meeting,  and any person shall be entitled to have his or her name placed upon such register provided that at such meeting of the Board of Registration he or she is known or proven to the satisfaction of such Board of Registration to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at said Annual Meeting to be held on the 16th of May 2017. The Register prepared pursuant to Education Law shall be filed in the Office of the School District Clerk and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District on each of the five days prior to and the day set for the school district meeting between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., prevailing time, except Sunday.

 

THE FOLLOWING PROPOSITIONS WILL

BE SUBMITTED TO THE VOTERS AT

SAID VOTE ON MAY 16, 2017

 

Proposition #1Purchase of Two Buses & Van

Shall the Board of Education be authorized to purchase a 65-passenger diesel bus, a 42-passenger propane bus and a 7-passenger van at a combined cost not to exceed $248,950.00 and to issue serial bonds for such purpose?

Proposition #2 – Transportation Proposition

Shall the Board of Education be authorized to modify the distance thresholds of the School District’s current policy for transporting students grades 7-12 from the current one (1.0) mile, and grades K-6 from the current ½ (0.5) mile, so that all students are transported to the District School they attend at a total additional cost of $1,231 for the school year, at an additional 3.6 miles per day?

Proposition #3 – Hunter Library Board of Trustees

There are two open seats on the Hunter Public Library Board of Trustees. Shall the voters of the district appoint the following individuals to those seats?

Additional Propositions

Any proposition that is required to be included for vote shall be submitted in writing by means of a petition signed by at least 25 qualified voters, stating the residence of each signer, which proposition shall be filed with the Board of Education not later than 30 days before the date of the election as set forth in this notice unless a greater number of days is required by statute. Any proposition shall be rejected by the Board of Education if the purpose of the proposition is not within the powers of the voters or where the expenditure of monies is required for the proposition, and such proposition fails to include then necessary specific appropriation.
