NHS Selection Criteria
The Four Pillars of NHS & HHS’s Chapter Requirements (in order to be selected):
Scholarship: 3.5 or higher GPA (If you received this invitation, your GPA qualifies you)
Service: At least 20 hours of community service from September 2023 and September 2024 (verifiable if asked)
Leadership: At least 2 significant examples of leadership (either positions held or examples of sustained periods where you have demonstrated leadership)
Character: We will check the referrals in PowerSchool from your entire high school career and put out a list of candidates to all teachers and staff to ask for feedback (positive and negative). Skipping classes, chronic absences and tardies, insubordination, leaving school without permission, and academic dishonesty are all considered when making decisions.
The Process:
Students who have completed 10th or 11th grade and have been at HHS for at least one semester - with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher will be invited to fill out a Student Information Sheet (usually in August).
Students who clearly meet all of those requirements (above) and do not have any issues in Powerschool or negative feedback from teachers will be voted on by the Faculty Council to determine selection.
Non-selected students usually have seven days in which to appeal the decision by contacting Mrs. Williams. The Faculty Council will review the appeals after that time. If a student is still not selected, they can discuss the matter with the principal.
A reminder - use of AI or any kind of academic dishonesty is a flagrant violation of school rules and the pillars upon which National Honor Society is built.
