"A picture is worth a thousand words..."

My name is Geraldine Otte and I am thrilled and honored to be the Art teacher at Vieja Valley. I have been a parent here since 2007 with my 3 children attending and have come to know and love the Vieja Valley community of teachers, parents and students.
I come to Vieja Valley with a background in fabric and print design for the apparel industry. I studied in Paris, Mexico City and New York to obtain a degree in Fashion design with a specialty in fabric and print design. I worked as lead designer, managing studios of artists for 12 years in different companies in New York and Los Angeles. When our family moved to Santa Barbara in 2007, I started teaching languages (French and Spanish) in afterschool programs and Art through a local organization “Art walk for kids and adults”. I love teaching kids because they are natural artists…their spontaneity always inspires me!
Art is the universal language and can teach, communicate and enrich us beyond words…”A picture is worth a thousand words” is one of my favorite quotes.
I like to celebrate each child’s unique style while teaching basic and fundamental concepts in art. Your child will work on projects that incorporate themes related to their grade level and range from individual paintings in different medias, collages, to large collaborative mural paintings and assemblage, when working on backdrops for school plays. They are also given the opportunity to participate in different Art contests throughout the year such as the “PTA Reflections program”.
It will be a year filled with magic art exploration, colorful wonder, cultural and art history teachings.
