Introduction

 Reading Services in Hopedale

Hopedale Memorial School has two reading specialists, each with a unique role.  My role involves assessing students in the areas of reading and spelling and providing remedial services to children who require additional practice to be proficient readers and spellers.

Some of the students that I see are receiving Special Education services.  These students have an Individualized Education Plan that includes Specialized Reading.  These students are usually in 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th grade and are seen either individually or in small groups.  In addition, I provide support to second and third graders who need a "double dose" of Fundations.  Fundations is the phonics portion of our balanced literacy program.  The students that I see for Fundations support are not in special education but benefit from additional exposure to the phonics portion of our curriculum.
