Current Lessons and Assignments (Subject to change)

Hello,
I am Mrs. Skoff, and I am so excited to be a part of the Homer-Center team again this year. I teach 5th grade Reading/Language Arts. We will explore many new books and stories throughout the year. Students will practice writing skills, grammar, vocabulary strategies, spelling, and how to get the most out of reading. If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me through email or phone at askoff@homercenter.org or 724-479-9077 ext. 1503.
Resources and Ideas to help your child practice the skills:
  • Review the Interactive Notebook prior to grammar quizzes
  • Use vocabulary flashcards to practice the definitions and spelling
  • Have students take a pre-test
  • Use the Spelling Practice Worksheet (available in my classroom and under the "documents" link)
  • Write the vocabulary words three times each
  • Play a game to see who in the family can use the vocabulary words the most that week in normal conversations
  • Play games on spellingcity.com using our current word list
  • Have your child bring home their text book to practice reading the story and answer questions. Ask questions from the fiction or nonfiction test I have posted to this site.
  • Encourage students to read 20 minutes each night
