The Hispanic League, in keeping with their mission to improve the lives of Hispanics/Latinos by facilitating their inclusion, education and health while promoting multicultural understanding, dignity and respect, has established this scholarship program to provide scholarships for deserving students.

There is additional information required to complete your application packet. It is your responsibility to request these materials. Deadline for receipt of all applications and accompanying materials is January 18, 2013. All back up materials must be received in one envelope. Materials received after the deadline, either on-line or by mail, will not be considered for a scholarship. The Center for Scholarship Administration, Inc. (CSA), an independent, nonprofit organization, is the administrator of the program.


About the Hispanic League Scholarship Program

 

Basic Eligibility Requirements for 2013

  • Must be a high school senior, high school graduate (including GED), or undergraduate student enrolled in college in the United States
  • Must be a PAST or PRESENT Forsyth County, NC, ESL student (Must submit a completed ESL Program Verification Form)
  • Must be a resident of NC. Preference will be given to Forsyth County residents
  • Family of current Hispanic League Board and Scholarship Committee are not eligible for these scholarships
  • Must be of Hispanic origin
  • Must plan to attend an accredited college in the fall of 2013
  • Academic achievement and financial need are considerations for these scholarships
  • May be a former recipient of Hispanic League scholarship
  • There is no age limit for applicants. US Citizenship not required

Over 400 Attend 2011 Spanish Nite to Honor 27 Local Hispanic/Latino Student Scholarship Recipients

 

Winston-Salem, N.C. - On April 9, over 400 people attended the Hispanic League’s 12th Annual Spanish Nite Scholarship Awards Gala. Emceed by Carmen Canales and Luis Batista, this bilingual, formal-attire event included Oscar Hijuelos, author of The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love and the first Hispanic author to win the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction, as the keynote speaker and entertainment was provided by Orquesta GarDel and DJ Edgar Menendez. 

            In addition to the scholarship funds, $6,000 was raised to benefit the Hispanic League Scholarship Program through the silent auction, raffle ticket sales and photo sales. 

            The Hanesbrands, Inc. Hispanic Leadership Award was presented to Carlos Patiño for his exemplary contributions and leadership in the Hispanic/Latino Community. Angel Cedillo was chosen as the winner of the $500 raffle.

The 27 local Hispanic/Latino student scholarships were awarded to the following individuals: Mariela Arias, Miranda Arias, Anabela Barreto, Reina Beltran, Brian Cedillo, Natalie Cedillo, Steffany Cubias, Yesenia Evaristo, Zuleima Evaristo, Juan Felipe Gaitan Granados, Mateo Gaitan, Emilio Guzman-Cisneros, Larisa Hernandez-Perea, Max Huamani, Joshua  Jimenez Cruz, Gilda Emma Llerena Barbieri, Luis Melendez, Manuel Oseguera, Rebeca Palomo, Angelica Regalado, Juan Regalado, Luis Regalado, Segundo Eduardo Regalado-Vera, Berenice Romero, Sabrina Paula Tomaselli, Yaneth Valenzuela and Marcela Vega-Orozco.

12th Annual Spanish Nite event sponsors included PepsiCo, Deuterman Law Group, Delhaize America-Food Lion, BB&T, Hanesbrands, Inc., State Farm Insurance, Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice, PLLC and Sterling Events Group.

Since 2000, the Hispanic League’s Spanish Nite Scholarship Awards Gala has awarded over 150 scholarships, totally more than $275,000, to local, academically outstanding Hispanic students.
