Research Project – Physical Exercise for children with ASD
A research project taking place with Liverpool John Moores University, this particular project is regarding physical exercises effect on stress, sleep, stereotypical behaviour, communication and social interactions for children aged between 5 -11 years with a diagnosis of ASD. The Autism Show
Its that time of the year again for the annual Autism Show in Manchester hosted by The National Autistic Society, this year it will be on Friday, 1st and Saturday, 2nd July at Event City in Manchester (right next to the Trafford Centre). The show itself offers information, advice, products and services related to people on the autism spectrum. There are over 20 guest speakers at the event and over 50 exhibition stands to find out more about products and services for people with autism.

Play Mattel Liverpool – Autism Friendly!
Play Mattell will be hosting their very first Autism Friendly session on Wednesday, 25th May between 6:00 – 8:00pm!! they only have a maximum number of 100 places for their autism friendly sessions, to allow the session to feel calmer and relaxed for children (normally it would be 250!), Prices are £11 per child and 1 accompanying carer each can go for free.
Staff at Play Mattell have all undergone Autism Awareness training and are keen to welcome you! If these sessions are a little late for your children, they would welcome you anytime and recommend coming in the morning around 9am, when the place is much quieter.

Autism Friendly Cinema Screenings
Once a month every cinema on the Wirral and in Liverpool will show an autism friendly screening of a children’s movie; this is great for all ages and family members to attend and is targeted at those with a child with ASD or disability. The screenings differ from the usual mainstream as there are no adverts before the film is shown (therefore be there on time), the lights are raised slightly and the sound is lowered; also if your child swops seats or talks during the performance then this is ok. This is also a good chance to meet other families with children with ASD. This months screenings are:
Odeon Cinema, Bromborough – will be showing The Angry Birds Movie on Sunday, 22nd May at 11:03am.
Vue Cinema, Birkenhead & Cheshire Oaks will be showing Alvin and the Chipmunks: Roadchip on Sunday, 29th May at 10:00am (£1.99 per ticket).
Cheshire Oaks – Autism Friendly
Cheshire Oaks now host monthly autism friendly shopping experiences, with a couple of adaptions to help ease the anxiety that shopping can cause and also to help build confidence of people with autism and their families to go out shopping! The adaptions made include; lights turned down low, music turned down low/turned off, a number of different quiet zones throughout the site for a place to go if feeling overwhelmed and need a break, all staff have received training in autism from our award winning Autism in Practice department.
Also if you visit the customer services office when you arrive, you can pick up a map of the Cheshire Oaks site which will outline all the quiet zones for you and also autism alert cards which can be handed out to the public or a staff member if you require any assistance.
The next Autism Friendly Shopping night will be on Today, (10th May )from 5:00 – 9:00pm
