NAS AUTISM SUPPORT HUB AND LENDING LIBRARY

The Hub offers a collection of books, DVDs, CDs, visual aids, sensory toys and other useful tools to help anyone on the autistic spectrum or people caring for someone with autism, Asperger’s or other learning or sensory difficulty. They aim to provide a supportive, informal environment where individuals, parents and professionals can find information, talk to others in a similar situation or just have a coffee and browse our shelves.

The resource library offers the unique facility to borrow or try out on site. You can borrow sensory toys, weighted clothing, visual aids, ear defenders and timing tools, plus many more in the future.

This will prove invaluable for families with children or adults on the spectrum or with related conditions, to help them find items that will provide support in everyday life without having to spend a large amount from the outset.

Autism Friendly Cinema Screenings

Once a month cinemas in the area will show an autism friendly screening of a children’s movie. This is great for all ages and family members to attend and is targeted at those with a child with ASD.

The screenings differ from the usual mainstream as there are no adverts before the film is shown the lights are raised slightly and the sound is lowered; also if your child swops seats or talks during the performance then this is ok. This is also a good chance to meet other families with children with ASD.

This months screenings are:

Odeon Cinema, Bromborough – will be showing Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip on Sunday, 28th February at 11:30am.

Vue Cinema, Birkenhead & Cheshire Oaks will be showing The Good Dinosaur on Sunday, 28th February at 10:00am for just £1.99 a ticket!

The Light Cinema, New Brighton will be showing The Good Dinosaur on Sunday, 21st February at 10:30am for just £3 per ticket!

CEA CARD

The CEA Card is a national card scheme developed for UK cinemas by the UK Cinema Association (UKCA), formerly the Cinema Exhibitors' Association (CEA). The scheme was introduced in 2004 and is one of the ways for participating cinemas to ensure they make reasonable adjustments for disabled guests when they go to the cinema; in particular it ensures a complimentary ticket for someone to go with them.
