Volunteering at Hillcrest High School
Hillcrest High School has a rich tradition of extra curricular activities that complement the academic experiences of our students. We have been fortunate to have parents and community members seek to take on a volunteer role with a club or team. We welcome volunteer interest and are happy to meet with parents to discuss how they may volunteer at Hillcrest. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mr. Bickerton. Below, please see the parameters for volunteers as determined by the OCDSB.
The OCDSB Volunteer Procedure (PR.555.SCO found at http://www.ocdsb.ca) provides the opportunities in exceptional circumstances for parents to volunteer with groups that do not have a teacher supervisor. That procedure will be followed and supersedes any information found on this posting.
If you are interested in volunteering, please print off and complete the Volunteer Application Form and then contact Mr. Lavergne for an appointment to discuss your interests, qualifications and ideas. You will need to get a Criminal Record Check (CRC) from the Police as well. Your application form and CRC will then be forwarded to our Boards central screening committee. You will have an interview and be provided with additional information and training. Assignment of volunteers will be based on interest, qualifications and program sustainability. Student Safety is our top priority at all times and is a major factor in our decisions regarding school related activities. These activities are designed and initiated as they provide learning opportunities for our students.
Volunteers will be assuming all responsibilities relating to a club or sport. These include but are not limited to supervision of students at all times, arranging for transportation, following all OCDSB Policy and Procedure, collecting fees and depositing them with the office, organizing practices/rehearsals/meetings, arranging all aspects regarding competitions, completing all registration requirements, communicating regularly with the administration, attending all practices and games, and communicating with students. Parents will have to sign a permission form acknowledging that their child is permitted to participate in a group that is being supervised by a parent volunteer.
Please feel free to contact the school at any time to discuss your interest in supporting one of our many clubs and teams.
