San Diego Archaeological Center

Students will rotate in groups of 14 to four different activities.
The museum is located in east Escondido (16666 San Pasqual Valley Road)

Leave HTMNC at 9:15 a.m.
Return to HTMNC at 2:00 p.m.

1. Center Scavenger Hunt
  • Explore inside the center by looking at various displays.
  • Complete a creative writing piece.
2. Archaeological Site Excavation and Analysis
  • What does an archaeologist do?
  • Excavate a sand unit: ask questions, hypothesize, and dig
  • Analyze findings and answer questions / relate to hypotheses
  • Compare two groups' artifacts and determine correlation (if any)
  • Importance of preserving archaeological
3. Ceramic Analysis
  • Practice analyzing ceramics.
  • Calculate the size of a broken vessel based on shards.
  • Make own pottery to take home.
4. GPS Exploration
Use GPS devices to explore outside of the center.
