There are two ways to use your HUSD Gmail account with the iPhone. You can download the free Google app, or you can setup the built-in Mail and Calendar apps to work directly with your account. These are the instructions for configuring the built in applications.
Turn on IMAP access within your Gmail account
Open 'Settings', then 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars' on your iPhone. If you had setup your iPhone to work with Groupwise, you should delete that account.
Enter your account settings. Please remember to use @hesperiausd.org as your email address.
Decide what you want to sync to the phone. If you want, the Gmail calendar can replace everything on your built in Calendar, or you can leave it alone.
It took about 20 minutes before Google started letting my iPhone connect to the server the first time. Please be patient if you are getting 'Connection Failed' errors. Sometimes the settings within Gmail are a little behind what Google is actually doing.
iPhones are not 'officially supported' by the HUSD IT Department, but a lot of people have them, so we created this guide for your convenience. We'll be happy to help if we have time, but we can't promise that we can get your personal phone to work with any given application or service.
If your emails suddenly stops working after it has worked for a while and you get this error message:

1. Quit all mail clients that are accessing the affected Gmail account. This means the Mail app on the iPhone and any other place you are accessing your Gmail from such as a computer.
2. Open Safari on the affected iPhone and navigate to this page:http://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
3. Enter your full Gmail address (including the @hesperiausd.org), password and type the characters you see in the picture. Touch the unlock button to verify your account.
4. Within 10 minutes, open the Mail app and your Gmail access should be restored.
