In the early 1900’s Clark County was served by the Guerrants Mountain Mission Clinic and hospital, now the Bluegrass Heritage Museum. As the community grew, the need for a larger hospital was apparent. On March 17, 1917 the Clark County Hospital, now Clark Regional Medical Center, opened on the corner of Lexington and Wainscott Ave. At this time, a lot of the funding for the hospital was obtained through donations from the community. One donor was George Lee Wainscott, the founder of beloved soda and bottling company, Ale-8 One. Mr. Wainscott’s contribution allowed the hospital to build a 2-story Nurses home for those serving Clark County Hospital. This nurses home still stands today as Wainscott Hall, now Clark County Homeless Coalition Shelter. We are proud to have a part of our community’s history of serving those in need continue through our organization and homeless shelter.
