Q: What is HDSB Reads?

A:
HDSB Reads, is a board-wide book club hosted by Library Services that encourages a love of reading. HDSB Reads aims to connect and engage the HDSB community through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. After reading the selected title, club members will have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities. HDSB Reads culminates with an author & illustrator event.  Starting in the 2017-18 school year, HDSB Reads will offer one book for Kindergarten to Grade 6 and another book for Grades 7 to 12.


Q: Why is it called "HDSB Reads 2017" when it's 2018?

A: 2017 is the year the book was selected.  We continue to read and celebrate the book through the 2017/18 school year.


Q: How do I particpate in HDSB Reads?

A: It's easy!

  • Read a copy of the book

  • Participate in the events and activities.

 

Q: How was the book chosen?

A: A team of library staff from elementary and secondary schools as well as Library Services at JWS selected the book based on the following criteria:

  • Be written by a Canadian author who is available for an author visit.

  • Published within the last 5 years.

  • Suitable for for as many students as possible, as well as staff.

 

Q: Where can I get a copy of the book?

A: Visit your school library to borrow a print copy.  Two bulk orders are offered: one in June and one in September.
