I am thrilled to welcome your child to our Grade 3 classroom.  This school year promises to be an exciting one and I am really looking forward to getting to know our new group, as well as working in partnership with you to create a positive, challenging, and enthusiastic learning environment at Gladys Speers!

Halton’s homework guidelines recommend between 15-30 minutes of homework each night for Grade 3 students.  Homework for your child this year will consist of reading every night, although this will not be written in the agenda.  Beginning this month, there will be language homework given every Monday, and due every Friday. More information about our language program will be coming home shortly.  I hope that you will encourage your child to spend a few minutes each day completing the homework to begin to foster regular work habits.  Skill-extension and extra practise homework in mathematics may also be assigned. We will aim to participate in either Daily Physical Education or D.P.A each day.  It is recommended that gym clothes and running shoes are kept at school so that they are not forgotten at home. As well, to ensure a clean learning environment we ask that students have both indoor and outdoor shoes. Since the school does not provide Kleenex, we would greatly appreciate any donations. If possible, we would also appreciate you providing your child with pencils/erasers, pencil crayons, a pencil sharpener, markers, and scissors.

Volunteers in the school system must have a police background check done (which is to be submitted to the main office) before they come into the classroom. An in-service regarding important school guidelines must take place before volunteering in any classroom. If you are interested in volunteering please let me know and I will contact you when needed.

Home/School Communication is so important. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send me a note in the agenda, contact me at the school or via email. I look forward to meeting you, and working with you to ensure your child’s success this year.
