General FAQs

What is the cost to attend ENGAGE? There is no cost for Hoover City Schools students to participate in virtual courses. 

What tests/exams are required as part of the program? All Hoover City Schools students, traditional and/or virtual, participate in regular assessments and state testing. 

Full Time ENGAGE Students 

Will students work at his or her own pace?
Students will have the option to choose a teacher-led or student- paced course. For some courses, only one of these options will be available. 

Will a student be able to participate in extracurricular activities?
Extracurricular activities will be available to students at the zoned high school. Students must meet the same extracurricular activity eligibility requirements as students enrolled in the traditional day program, including, but not limited to, any applicable Alabama High School Athletic Association (“AHSAA”) requirements. Student residency for purposes of participating in extracurricular activities will be determined in accordance with applicable state law and AHSAA guidelines.


Where will a full time ENGAGE student complete mandatory tests?
Students will come on-campus to complete assessments. Individual student performance will be monitored pursuant to the school system’s traditional academic credit requirements and grade scale.  Students utilizing the virtual education option will be subject to all state testing and accountability requirements and will be subject to the same rules and regulations regarding the administration of such tests applicable to traditional public school students enrolled in the traditional public school.

How will a full time ENGAGE student register for courses?
All students will complete the course selection process and register for courses at the zoned high school. Contact the school counselor for additional information.

Part Time ENGAGE Students

Where will part-time students attend face-to-face courses? Students will participate in courses at the zoned high school.
