P.E. Syllabus

Bumpus Middle School

·         Physical Education will emphasize the importance of physical fitness, individual, and team sports.
·         Activities will include court and field sports, as well as lifetime sports and activities.
·         An emphasis will be placed on participation, rules and regulations, personal responsibility, and sportsmanship.

·         All students are required to wear an ORANGE SHIRT and BLACK SHORTS.
·         It is encouraged that students wear the PE uniform that is available for purchase from the PE department
which has a place to write the student’s name on it. (This is helpful for easy identification of lost or missing items)
·         Students who bring their own shirt and shorts must bring it to their PE teacher to have it labeled with their name
      on it clearly.
·         Appropriate athletic shoes are required daily in order to be completely dressed out and participate in class.
·         Students may purchase a new uniform at any time to replace any lost or damaged items.
·         Not having the correct shirt, shorts, and shoes will result in a loss of points for that day.

60% - Dress Out/Participation

30% - Skill Assessment

10% - Cognitive/Written Assignment

·         NOT DRESSING OUT will result in a loss of 5 points for the day and the student will not be allowed to participate.
·         Points (2 to 5) may also be deducted if a student is:
        Not participating
        Violating safety procedures
        Being disruptive
        Off task
·         Parents and students can monitor their grade by checking INow or communicating with their individual PE teacher.

·         If a student is unable to participate due any medical reasons, he/she must bring a dated and signed
note from their parent or doctor to their PE teacher in order to be excused from that day’s activities.
·         If a student is to be excused from participation for more than 3 consecutive days, a doctor’s note is
required and it must be dated as to when the student can resume full activities.

·         Be prepared to participate in class.
·         Be respectful to teachers and fellow classmates.
·         No horseplay at any time during class or in the locker rooms.
·         No gum, candy, mints, food, or drink are allowed in the gyms or locker room at any time.
·         No body lotion, perfume, or spray deodorant are allowed in the locker rooms.
·         Students are responsible for their personal items – lockers should be closed and locked at all times.
·         All students are expected to respect and follow the Bumpus school rules and policies.
