Getting ready for Kindergarten Information

Kindergarten Registration for the 2018-19 school year starts the week of March 5-9. Please visit your assigned school with all registration documents to register your child for kindergarten. Find out more about Getting Ready for Kindergarten →

If your assigned school is Hanover Hills Elementary School, please register for kindergarten at your child’s 2017-18 assigned school.

New Kindergarten Students

Children must be 5 years old by September 1 in order to enroll in kindergarten. Every child who is 5 years old by September 1 must be enrolled in a kindergarten program this fall or have an approved waiver.

If the birth certificate is provided, parents must also provide the student’s current proof of immunizations signed by physician. (Please add this to all other information as well.)

Payment MUST be made in full and received in the office or online by May 30. After that point, parents will be contacted to inform them that their students are being withdrawn and we will begin contacting students on the wait list.

Payment can be made online, by mail or at an onsite registration by using the payment form. Payments will not be accepted at the Central Office.

Please complete the wait list if your desired course is closed. Wait list spots are limited to 25 students at each grade level.

The Basics
  • The Summer Institute runs from 8:30 am - 3:00 pmThis is a full day program only. The World Language Program offers a half day option. World Language students are able to enroll in Summer Institute afternoon enrichment courses. 
  • The program starts on July 2 and ends on July 27. Students will not attend school on July 4.
  • Tuition is $600.
  • Students entering grades K-4 will attend Stevens Forest Elementary. Students entering grades 5-9 will attend Oakland Mills High.
  • The Summer Institute is for students entering Kindergarten through Grade 9.
  • Students will register for individual classes based on the grade they will enter in the fall of 2018.
  • The goal of the program is to provide academic enrichment for students in preparation for the upcoming school year. 
  • Morning courses will focus on academics. The afternoon courses will be enrichment courses, focused on arts, STEM, and health and/or physical activity.
  • Transportation will be provided. Bus stops will not be the same as the regular school year but will be located at cluster stops throughout the county. The schedule will be finalized and released in June.
  • Lunch is provided free of charge for all students.
  • Instructors are all certified teachers, the majority of whom are from Howard County.
