2018-19 Scholarships

The following are the scholarships that come to the West Henderson High School Guidance Office.
There are many other scholarships available but you have to find them.

The Gates Scholarship:     full tuition for four years

Deadline:       September 18th  

To be eligible you must:

  • Be African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian/Pacific Islander American, or American Indian/Alaska Native

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Be pell-eligible (total family income of $50,000 or less)

  • Be a US citizen, national or permanent resident

  • Have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.3

To be selected you must:


  • Rank in the top 10% of your graduating class

  • Have demonstrated leadership ability as shown through participation in community service or extracurricular activities

  • Have exceptional personal success skills (emotional maturity, perseverance, motivation, etc.)

The Davidson College Bryan Scholarship:   $35,000 annually

Deadline:       September 19th

To be eligible you must:

  • Attend Davidson College

  • Be an outstanding student-athlete

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must demonstrate:

  • Academic and Personal Excellence

  • Leadership in the classroom and in your sport

  • Strong promise of significant impact in your classes and in your life on campus

  • Potential for success in Davidson’s NCAA Division I Athletic Program

QuestBridge Scholarship:    full 4-year scholarship

Deadline:      September 27th  

To be eligible you must:

  • Be a high-achieving, low-income student

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must:

  • Have family income of $65,000 or less

  • Earn A's in the most challenging courses available

  • Rank in the top 5-10% of your graduating class

P.E.O. STAR Scholarship (Chapter V):   $2,500 non-renewable

Deadline:       September 28th

To be eligible you must:

  • Be a female

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019 from a Henderson County School

  • Plan to attend a 4 year college or university

  • Be enrolled in that college or university no later than Fall 2018

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 unweighted

To be selected you must demonstrate/have:

  • Excellence in academics

  • Involvement in numerous extra-curricular activities

  • Leadership

  • Career goals – show potential for future success

  • Community Service

Park Scholarship:   $111,000 over four years

Deadline:       October 1st    

To be eligible you must:

  • Attend North Carolina State University

  • Be an outstanding scholar and leader

  • Be a permanent US citizen and resident

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must demonstrate:

  • Service

  • Scholarship

  • Character

  • Leadership

P.E.O. STAR Scholarship (Chapter B):   $2,500 non-renewable

Deadline:      October 5th

To be eligible you must:

  • Be a female

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019 from a Henderson County School

  • Plan to attend a 4 year college or university

  • Be enrolled in that college or university no later than Fall 2018

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 unweighted

To be selected you must demonstrate/have:

  • Excellence in academics

  • Involvement in numerous extra-curricular activities

  • Leadership

  • Career goals – show potential for future success

  • Community Service

Levine Scholars Program:   Full tuition, room, and board for four years

Deadline:       October 8th     

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Attend UNC Charlotte

  • Score 1350-1600 on the SAT or score 29-36 on the ACT composite

  • Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.8 - 4.0

To be selected you must demonstrate/have:

  • An academic record that reflects a sustained intellectual curiosity

  • A capacity for ethical leadership

  • Commitment to community service

Morehead Cain Foundation Scholarship:  Full tuition plus extras for four years

Deadline:       October 15th    

To be eligible you must:

  • Attend UNC Chapel Hill

  • Be an outstanding scholar and leader

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must demonstrate:

  • Moral Force of Character

  • Scholarship

  • Physical Vigor

  • Leadership

Wendy's High School Heisman:   $500 to $5,000

Deadline:       October 17th     

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Be a student-athlete

To be selected you must demonstrate/have:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better

  • Participate in at least one varsity sport

  • Be a leader in the school and the community

  • Serve as a role model for underclassmen

ACT College & Career Readiness Champions:    $500

Deadline:       October 31st     

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Have overcome challenges

  • Score at least 22 on the ACT composite

  • Be able to articulate your education and/or career goals

Leadership in Service Scholarship:    $10,000 over four years

  • Attend Universty of Dayton (Ohio)

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

John M. Belk Scholarship:   full tuition plus two special study stipends

Deadline:       November 9th

To be eligible you must:

  • Attend Davidson College

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must demonstrate:

  • Superior intellectual and personal achievement

  • Significant leadership ability

  • Integrity

  • Global awareness

The Robertson Scholars Leadership Program:  Full tuition plus extras for four years

Deadline:       November 15th    

To be eligible you must:

  • Attend UNC Chapel Hill or Duke University

  • Have the potential to be a great leader in college and beyond

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must demonstrate:

  • Purposeful leadership

  • Intellectual curiosity

  • Strength of character

  • Collaborative spirit

Centennial Scholarship:     up to $88,000 over 4 years plus $7,500 enrichment fund

Deadline:       November 15th

To be eligible you must:

  • Enroll in the College of Textiles at NC State University

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must demonstrate:

  • Academic achievement

  • Proven and potential leadership

  • Active participation in extracurricular activities

  • Unique life experiences

 The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship:    full undergraduate support

Deadline:   November 15th

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Attend UNC Chapel Hill

To be selected you must:

  • Have exceptionally focused literary ability and promise

  • Demonstrate artistic merit through the submission of prose, poetry, or plays that you have written

Goodnight Scholars Program:    $19,500 per year, renewable for four years

Deadline:       December 1st  

To be eligible you must:

  • Apply to NC State University by October 15th

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must:

  • Have family income of $110,000 or less

  • Select a STEM (Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics) major

  • Rank in the top 2% of your graduating class

  • Have at least a 3.9 unweighted GPA and/or 4.8 weighted GPA

  • Score above 1450 on the SAT and/or above 32 on the ACT

Ignite Excellence Scholarship:   full tuition

Deadline:       December 1st

To be eligible you must:

  • Attend Gardner-Webb University

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must:

  • Have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.7 or higher

  • Have a minimum ACT composite score of 25 or minimum total SAT score of 1200

Boston University Trustee Scholarship:    full-tuition four-year scholarship

Deadline:   December 1st

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Be in the top 10% of your class

  • Attend Boston University

To be selected you must:

  • Have the potential to inspire fellow students to excel

  • Have outstanding academic ability

  • Be a leader in your school and community

National Honor Society Scholarships:    up to $25,000

Deadline:       December 7th     

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Be a member of the National Honor Society

Elon Odyssey Program Scholarships:    $30,000 to full tuition over four years

Deadline:       January 10th    

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Attend Elon University

To be selected you must:

  • Be an academically strong, civically engaged student

  • Have significant financial need

LR Teaching Scholarship:    $5,500 per year for four years

  • A sincere desire to serve others through a career in teaching

NC Teaching Fellows Program:    $33,000 ($8,250 in forgivable loans per year, renewable for 4 years)

Deadline:       January 13th

To be eligible you must:

  • Attend community college, NC State, UNC Charlotte, UNC Chapel Hill, Elon University, or Meredith College

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

To be selected you must:

  • Teach STEM or Special Ed after graduation in order to qualify for loan forgiveness

SMU Hunt Leadership Scholars Program:    $168,000 ($42,000 per year, renewable for 4 years)

  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Meet various eligibility requirements as specified (differs for each scholarship)

  • Financial need (unless otherwise noted)

  • Academic achievement or potential (based on class rank, GPA, and SAT scores)

  • A history of active participation in school activities, community service, extracurricular involvement, and/or work experience

  • Strong moral character

  • Various characteristics as specified (differs for each scholarship)

SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) Scholarships:    $20,000 per year

Deadline:       February 1st     

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019

  • Plan to attend SCAD (any campus or online)

  • Be an outstanding student who will go on to shape the future of creative professions

  • Be recommended by your teacher or counselor

To be selected you must have:

  • Minimum 1410 SAT score or ACT composite score of at least 30

  • Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.75

  • Honors and awards from competitions, or other recognitions

  • Leadership skills demonstrated through extracurricular involvement

East Carolina University Military Science Scholarships:    up to $80,000

  • Be selected by WHHS's Scholarship Committee

  • Involvement in a variety of extra-curricular activities

State Employees Credit Union 2016 "People Helping People" Scholarship:   $10,000 (payable @ $1,250 per semester)

Deadline:       February 4th

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate in 2019 from a Henderson County School

  • Be accepted and plan to attend a one of the 16 constituent campuses of the UNC System

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 unweighted

To be selected you must demonstrate/have:

  • Parents or guardians who are public sector employees who live and work in North Carolina

  • Excellence of Character

  • Involvement in numerous extra-curricular activities

  • Leadership

  • Integrity

The Hoffmeyer Annual Scholarship for Nursing:     $15,000 per year for 4 years

Deadline:    May 1st

To be eligible you must:

  • Be on track to graduate from a Henderson County high school in 2019

  • Plan to attend Clemson University

  • Plan to major in major in Nursing
